Parenthood is not only a time of birth, but rebirth for the parent and the family. You likely feel an overwhelming sense of responsibility to dedicate all of yourself to this new little life you created. Falling the slightest bit short of that can lead to feelings of guilt and shame. You may wonder, why can't you get it right? How do all these other parents seem to be juggling it all? What's wrong with me?

You find yourself questioning, where do my needs fit into this new life? Shouldn’t they also be met? Family members simply tell you to "sleep when the baby sleeps" or "it gets easier", but it only seems to get harder. You feel alone, ashamed of how hard this all is, and too scared to tell anyone. The lack of sleep, arguments with your partner, stress, and feelings of isolation add to your anxiety and self-doubt.

There is so much pressure on parents. Social media paints an unattainable image of what postpartum life should look like. The bright eyed, beautifully dressed, makeup to perfection Instagram image of the 6 weeks postpartum mother who has lost all her baby weight makes you enraged. You think to yourself, how? Why isn’t this me?

Please know you are not alone in this journey. I am here to support and guide you. Those overwhelming feelings will subside. You will find a smile returning to your face. Your relationship with your partner will get stronger and this new normal will get easier each day.

My name is Danielle, I am a licensed associate counselor in NJ. I completed my Masters of Counseling from Montclair State University. I have experience working with the adolescent college population, but decided it was time for a change after becoming a new mother during the pandemic. It became evident my passion is to serve the postpartum population and change the stigma associated with motherhood and all things perinatal. No mother should feel alone. My goal as a counselor is to offer you trust and support and be your constant during this time of uncertainty. I have completed advanced clinical training in perinatal mental health, including loss and grief, through the Seleni Institute.
